21 Savage (born Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph) is an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known for his mixtapes The Slaughter Tape (2015) and Savage Mode (2016), as well as his debut studio album Issa Album (2017).
Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, 21 Savage began his career in 2013, releasing his debut mixtape The Slaughter Tape. He followed this up with the release of Savage Mode, a collaborative mixtape with producer Metro Boomin, in 2016. The mixtape was met with critical acclaim and spawned the hit single “X” featuring Future.
In 2017, 21 Savage released his debut studio album Issa Album, which peaked at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart. The album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). 21 Savage has since released two further studio albums, I Am > I Was (2018) and Savage Mode II (2020).
21 Savage is also known for his activism, having founded the non-profit organization Leading By Example in 2018. The organization provides resources and support to underprivileged youth in Atlanta. 21 Savage has also been vocal about his support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
